Growing up in a diverse community, Yisak’s political views were shaped by a firm rejection of the inequality and injustice he witnessed firsthand. The 2020 economic shutdown coincided with his transition from high school to college, presenting him with the challenges of entering a world lacking institutional support. Like many young adults, he navigated the difficulties of being uninsured after aging out of state Medicaid programs. These experiences deepened his understanding of the uncertainty many Americans face and the failures of our government to provide for its citizens.
Yisak Worku was born in rural Asela, Ethiopia, and moved to the heart of Texas after his family was selected for the U.S. Diversity Visa Program. Upon arriving in the DFW metroplex, his family lived in a small two-bedroom apartment. For much of his life, his father worked as a driver for various rideshare companies, while his mother worked several odd jobs to support the family. Through years of perseverance, his parents saved enough to purchase their first home in 2013, providing his family with the stability and foundation they needed to thrive.
As housing prices surged and economic instability grew, the promise of a better tomorrow seemed increasingly out of reach for many. Yisak could no longer stand on the sidelines. Committed to advocating for policies that put people first, he launched this campaign to fight for a future where every member of our community has the opportunity to succeed. This movement is about more than just an election—it is about creating lasting change together.
